Nobin Udyokta - Turning unemployment into entrepreneurship

 Partner GTT

Workshop Description

The workshop is about the Nobin Udyokta or ‘New Entrepreneurs’ Program. The concept has been formulated by Professor Muhammad Yunus on the belief that “We are not job-seekers, we are job-givers.” The world is moving from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Professor Yunus believes that the world must adopt a policy of: a) zero poverty; b) zero unemployment and c) zero carbon emission to achieve sustainable development. To succeed on the  “Three Zeros” plan, Professor Yunus believes that four important things will play a vital role: the energy and creativity of the youth, the power of technology, social business & good governance.

The NU program is directly addressing the first two problems (poverty and unemployment) by involving youth, technology and social business. For these reasons we firmly believe that the NU program will play a vital role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The objective of this workshop is to discuss the methodology of the NU Program. Grameen Telecom Trust along with three other Grameen companies are implementing the NU program in Bangladesh since 2013. Through this workshop we hope to share our experience so that global companies can understand and gather knowledge about the process and replicate the program all around the world.
